  1. Write down the exact product composition (materials, ingredients, components).
  2. Confirm the intended use and any claims you’ll make.
  3. Identify the likely Canadian HS/tariff classification.
  4. Identify the product-specific regulator(s) for your item.
  5. Ask the supplier for the technical documents you’ll need.

Before you approve production

  1. Confirm the Canadian label requirements for your product.
  2. Approve the final packaging and label artwork.
  3. Calculate your true landed cost.
  4. Confirm your customs / broker process.
  5. Save the approved supplier specifications.

Before shipment

  1. Confirm your Business Number and CARM (RM) account are set up.
  2. Send documents to your broker / freight forwarder.
  3. Reconfirm product description, quantities and country of origin.
  4. Confirm any licences or permissions that apply to your product.
